Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening procedures are designed to lighten teeth and help remove stains and discoloration. Whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures because it can greatly improve how your teeth look and give you a more attractive, confident smile.

What causes tooth discolouration?
Teeth can become discoloured over time, which is normal, but certain lifestyle habits and diet habits can cause teeth to become stained. There are many causes to tooth discoloration .Some of the most common include the consumption highly coloured food and drinks ( berries, coffee, tea, red wine ).Some medications, aging, smoking and trauma can also cause teeth discoloration.

Types of Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening can either be done in the dental surgery or at home.

Home whitening
Home whitening uses custom-made trays which are designed to fit your teeth precisely, allowing the whitening gel to remain in contact with your teeth.

We offer Philips Zoom Home Night or Day whitening gels depending on your personal preferences.

These trays are made for you after your dentist has taken impressions of your teeth. The teeth whitening process involves wearing the gel-filled trays daily for one hour for approximately two weeks.

In-surgery whitening
In-surgery whitening is the fastest and easiest way to whiten your teeth. This in-surgery procedure consists of applying a whitening gel to your teeth, which is then activated with a specialized light.

The system also includes desensitizers to help minimize sensitivity and protect your enamel. This dentist-supervised, in-office procedure is safe, effective and clinically proven to whiten up to for a brighter, whiter smile in just one office visit.

At Princes Street Dental Care we use Philips Zoom Advanced Power the latest in-surgery teeth whitening system which has been featured on US hit shows such as Extreme Makeover, The Today Show and E! Entertainment Tonight.

Zoom Advanced Power is clinically proven to whiten your teeth up to 8 shades in just 1 hour and can be carried out on your lunch break. We also include a set of custom–made trays and home whitening gel to maintain your new white smile at home.

How long will the results last?
Your teeth will always be lighter than they were. However you may need periodic ‘touch ups’ for one or two nights every 6 to 12 months to keep them fabulous especially if you continue to smoke or drink coffee, red wine etc. You can still use your original trays and should you need further whitening gel we can provide this for you at a reduced cost.

What’s the difference between OTC whitening solutions and Philips Zoom?
Over-the-counter whitening products are not customised to your needs. With Philips Zoom, the whitening process is tailored to your needs by your dentist, with custom-fitted trays for at-home treatments or just the right light intensity and duration in the dentist’s office.
